Doctoral Assistant Scholarships Position in Public Economics, University della Svizzera Italiana

The Institute for Microeconomics and Public Economics (MecoP) at the Faculty of Economics,University of Lugano, invites applications for up to two Doctoral Assistant positions for up to four years. The starting date is October 2010, but a later date is possible. The working environment (including infrastructure and remuneration for teaching and research assistance) is very attractive.


The successful candidate(s) will be full-time PhD students at the University of Lugano, under the supervision of Professor Jametti. As such the candidates’ main focus will be on doctoral research and completion of related PhD courses (with a possibility to pursue doctoral courses at the Study Center Gerzensee). The research topics will be in Political Economy and/or Fiscal Federalism with an emphasis on empirical applications. Since the positions are financed through grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation, research projects will insert themselves into these projects. In addition candidates will provide part-time assistance in the institute’s research projects and teaching activities.

The ideal candidates have, or are upon completion of, a Master’s degree in Economics,
Econometrics or a related field.

Job Description: These scholarships aim to provide highly qualified students in the fields of fine art, design, film, music, choreography and architecture with an opportunity to complete a program of additional studies, with or without earning a formal degree, at a German institute of higher education.


Eligibility Requirements
* The guidelines here pertain to applicants in the fields of Fine Arts, Architecture, Music and Dance. (Applicants in all academic fields are welcome to apply for the regular Study Scholarship.
* Graduating seniors or graduate students applying for this program must be enrolled full-time at an accredited university at the time of application.(Those who have already completed an undergraduate degree do not need to be currently enrolled.)
* Recent graduates who have completed their Bachelor’s degrees no longer than six years before the application deadline are welcome to apply.
* PhD candidates must have achieved ABD status no longer than four years before applying. Postdocs may apply until two years after completion of their PhD.
* Applicants should be US or Canadian citizens. Foreign nationals must have studied at an accredited US or Canadian university for at least two years by the time of application.
* At the time of application, Applicants must not have been resident in Germany for more than one year.
* Applicants are requested to have a well-defined study project that makes a stay in Germany essential. Preference will be given to applicants who have been invited by a faculty member at a German university to study at a particular university department.
* Applicants in the arts, humanities and social sciences should have a good command of German.
* Applicants may not hold a DAAD grant and a grant from another German or German-American organization/German-Canadian organization concurrently for the same project. Prior recipients of a DAAD grant should contact DAAD New York before applying to determine their eligibility status.

The Scientific and Parallel Computing and Imaging (ICPS) group is seeking very good candidates for the following subject. Applicants shall have a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or in a related discipline. As for all PhD studies, a genuine interest and curiosity in the subject matter and excellent analytical and communication skills, orally as well as literally, are needed. Further, since the research work normally involves developing and testing analytical techniques, good programming skills are important. A successful candidate should have a profound interest in parallel and distributed systems.


The main objectives of this PhD is to study the different available cloud solutions and to propose an environment able to transparently manage resources for dynamic-data-driven applications. The work will have to tackle specific issues such as handling on-the-fly provisioning of resources suitable to one given application, as well as their reservation, deployment and execution of processes.
Salary : 1300 Eur net / month (+optional 300 Eur/month if 64hrs teaching/year)

CASTME Scholarship

The CASTME Scholarship is an annual award to study a Masters degree at the University of Westminster in London There is one general scholarship i.e. students from any Commonwealth country may apply and two others for students from Mauritius and Antigua.

The scholarships are competitive and we anticipate high numbers of applications.

The scholarship consists of payment of Tuition fees at the University of Westminster, accommodation, flights, visa costs, an arrivals allowance, (for suitable clothing) a book allowance and a living allowance of £400 per month, consisting of £250 cash and £150 food allowance. The value of this award is c. £25,000.
